*Is sitting very uncomfortably*
Sooooo… yesterday. I had my riding lesson. I am finally graduating to trotting at the diagonal (yay!) and was having a ton of fun as my instructor, Zul, has the mannerisms of a drill sergeant.
“Are you doing it correctly?”
“I think so.”
“You can’t ‘THINK’! You have to have CONFIDENCE. Now, ARE YOU DOING IT CORRECTLY?!”
“YES SIR”
“WRONG!”
*insert facepalm*
*Grin* But seriously. He is awesome. Honest.
Anyway! The club had acquired some new horses and he was trying out one of them; an extremely gorgeous ex-polo mare (But then again… all of them are ex-polo ^^ since they’re a subset of the royal polo stables)
But that day she had firmly decided that, nope. She did not want to be ridden that day and was trying from the moment he mounted her, to throw him off. Not in play, not because she was confused, but because she absolutely did not want to be ridden.
See, while I was trying to get the feel of telling whether Tobi’s hooves were hitting the ground in time, she was off the side bucking and prancing around. And Tobi? As much as I adore Tobi, and how calm and normally unflappable she is, she has this habit of, “Oh hey I’ll do what that horse is doing too!” So I can rely on her to trot when Yusuf, Zul or Lily’s horse starts to trot.
And… you can probably guess what happens next.
In mid-trot, Tobi suddenly decides to join the fun and promptly dug in her front-legs into the ground, lifted up her rump, and sent me crashing onto the dirt. To my credit, I failed my “SHIT!” and instead passed a more dignified, “WHOA!” as I landed right on the bony part of my right hip, followed by a whack to the back of my head.
And Zul, from right to the end of the arena, could actually hear the impact.
And dude, did it hurt.
Had a bit of fussed over; I was told to stay down and relax a bit. Zul straightened my legs and had me check that yes, I could still move my toes and nothing felt broken. And behind him Tobi was watching me with wide eyes all; What did I do?
Silly horse
Riding lesson ended 10 minutes early, and when I got home the pain started spreading so dropped by the hospital for a bit. Everything’s fine though, which is good, and I’ve got some lovely painkillers to numb the pain. Unfortunately I’ve been advised against riding on Friday, so I’ve a week’s rest now.
But man, if there’s one thing that really sank in? Helmets are a godsend. Zul showed me my helmet and the place where my head had slammed against the ground, there were huge scratches.
I am so getting my own helmet before the next lesson
